The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority will concentrate on developing Thirumazhisai, Minjur, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpet as satellite towns around the state capital, creating new town development plans, and constructing roads along these corridors for improved connectivity in an effort to avoid haphazard development.
S Muthusamy, the minister of housing and urban development, made the declaration on Wednesday in front of the state assembly.
According to the second master plan for the extension of the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA), the proposal covered 5.094 square kilometers in the taluks of Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and Arakkkonam. This had been prepared and was being examined. As the emphasis is now on vertical development within the city rather than expanding it horizontally, officials hinted that the anticipated expansion, which was originally scaled down from 8,889 sq km, may fall down even lower after negotiations with local bodies.

CMDA has already prepared a grid of roads plan for 196 revenue villages in the CMA to provide better transport facilities in undeveloped areas.

Tamil Nadu Housing Board is currently developing 311 acres of land near the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway at Thirumazhisai. The policy paper stated that “work at a cost of Rs245 crore has already been completed and in the next phase, plots, houses, and flats will be taken.”

Anshul Mishra, secretary of the CMDA, stated that by developing master plans, laying out a network of highways, announcing land pooling plans, and other development initiatives, the plan authority will facilitate the growth of these towns and make them self-sufficient.
